Analytical Prediction of the Distortional Buckling Loads for Cold-Formed Channel Beams with Edge-Stiffened Rectangular Web Openings

Recently, there has been an increasing number of studies on the distortional buckling analyses cold-formed steel (CFS) channels with web edge-stiffened holes. However, literature about analytical solutions is scarce, and current design rules, e.g., American Iron Steel Institute (AISI 2016) Australian/New Zealand standards (AS/NZ 4600: 2018), provide little advice for CFS This paper presents method estimating bearing capacity channel beams rectangular To validate proposed method, comprehensive finite element (FE) were performed. The equations accurately forecast moment capacities Specifically, average error critical predictions perforated obtained by (FEM) only 6.59%, where maximum reaches 17.76%. Moreover, a parameter study effect edge-stiffener length was carried out as well, results show that edge stiffener indeed significantly enhanced when it below threshold length, but enhancement becomes unobvious once surpassing length.
